I found “The One Thing” book to be a real game-changer. It’s by Gary Keller, who is the founder of Keller Williams, which has the most real estate agents in the world and co-author, Jay Papasan. This is my first book review on my blog, and to be honest, I’m still a work in progress with implementing 'The One Thing'.
On the surface, it seems pretty straightforward; find out what is your ‘one thing’, then focus on that. But there are many nuances to actually making it part of your (my) day to day life, so I read it very slowly to absorb the little things, and really consider how they apply to me and my life.
If you're a small business owner, you know how overwhelming it can be trying to keep up with everything, constantly managing multiple tasks and priorities. That's where The One Thing comes in – it's a practical guide to achieving success by focusing on what matters most.
Here are my top three takeaways from the book:
Identify your "one thing" – The book emphasizes the importance of prioritizing tasks in order to achieve maximum results. By identifying your "one thing" – the most important task that will make everything else easier or unnecessary – you can streamline your work processes and achieve greater success. One line that stood out to me was “that actually takes subtraction, not addition. You need to be doing fewer things for more effect, instead of doing more things with side effects.”
Master the art of time management – The One Thing provides a step-by-step approach to time management, helping you to prioritize tasks and stay focused on what's important. By learning to manage your time effectively, you can achieve more in less time and build a successful business. One of the keys, is scheduling your ‘one thing’ first thing each day. Simple, but genius!
Success is about doing the right things – The book emphasizes that success is not about doing everything, but about doing the right things. By mastering the art of prioritization and focusing on the most important tasks, no matter what area of our life, it will help us simplify our work processes and achieve our goals with greater ease and more effectively.
Overall, The One Thing is a valuable resource for anyone looking to maximize their productivity and achieve success in both their personal and professional life. I am sure I will share more as I further incorporate it into my life. It offers practical advice and very actionable strategies, I think this book is a must-read (and re-read) for anyone who want to achieve their goals and a build successful business with ease and grace - and without overworking.
