“I already know that, Miki!”, shouted a struggling Hair Stylist who bought one of my online courses. Of course, I wasn’t there, but that didn’t stop her from yelling in frustration at the computer as she watched. At that moment, she was looking for a ‘magic wand’ that would give her all the clients she wanted and to help her get off the ‘income rollercoaster’ she was on, with one week where she felt like she was big time and the next week with crickets.
If you’re not doing it, do you really know it?
The thing is, the course she was taking would later provide all of that and more, but it wasn’t until she came to the realization that, “I do know this, but am I doing it?” “Am I doing it consistently?” And if I’m not doing it, do I really know it? When she got really honest with herself, she knew the answer was ‘No’.
For many of us, we keep taking the next class, scrolling our timelines looking for that one ‘new trick’ that will make all the difference. When in reality, some of what we learn isn’t really new information. Nor does it need to be, because there is a big difference in knowing something and doing it.
One of the things I enjoy most about Coaching is getting to the root of what’s going on, which is sometime the only thing holding people back from actually doing what they know they need to do, and may even want to do, but there’s fear in there secretly rearing it’s head.
Or we have a ‘really good reason’ for why we can’t do it, or do it now. Except that when I start to ask questions and go a little deeper, it starts to sound like a ‘really flimsy excuse’ instead.
What is it that you ‘know’, that if you did it, and did it consistently that it would make a HUGE difference in your business? Take a moment and jot it down. Sometimes just putting some light on it will take out the fear.
